Since the death of the invading queen, Magdenai and Omon had remained on the station, assisting in the removal of the remaining xenos. Selien had been moved, carefully, down to the planet, to receive medical attention that wasn't going to be interrupted by battle emergencies. That, and so her bond, Narokith, could stay by her side. He'd been frantic when he'd felt her injured, but not having the telepathy the others shared, had been unable to find out what happened. Now, he wouldn't leave her side. Her outlook was good; she had some broken bones, but being stepped on by a massive xenodragon could have been far worse. Once she had a chance to check, Magdenai discovered that the rooms they had called home had been among those heavily damaged. She and Omon recovered what few possessions could be salvaged, and returned to the planet to discuss their plans with Selien and Narokith. "Well, we were planning to find a new homebase eventually," Selien remarked, after hearing how badly damaged their previous quarters were. "I guess this means we have to actually get it done. How about that world we visited? Malnev? The one with the feline and canine races? Seemed pretty peaceful; good for a base. Lots of rest between missions." Narokith agreed. "Somewhere peaceful would be good. I think you could all use a rest for bit, after that." He was almost the same physical age as Omon, just a few months younger, but he was barely half grown. Not being able to participate in the battle had been a mixed blessing, he felt. He hadn't been a detriment to the team, as he feared he might have been, since Selien, at least, would have been more focussed on making sure he wasn't hurt. But at the same time, he wasn't helping either, and he hadn't been there when Selien had been nearly crushed. He never would have forgiven himself had she died without him there to defend her. "True," Omon rumbled. "The battles were good, but rest would be welcome." He was still very pleased with his performance in the battle against the praetorians and the queen. But the clean out of the station had taken its toll, and he was ready for a bit of relaxation. Magdenai nodded. "Alright then, we'll check out Malnev as a homebase. Omon and I will go check it out, see if we can find a good spot, get things set up. Then, when Selien's feeling a bit more up to it, we'll get settled in." |
