The spotted detective paced in his den, swishing his tail. His sponsored dragoness, Lomah-aisi, lay comfortably across her couch, amused by his current attitude. He was puzzled by one of the clues in his current case; this one piece didn't fit with anything else in the evidence.
The dragon mutt snickered softly; she had planted that piece of evidence herself, just to see what would happen. Since she had made the entire case up, even getting a friend to hire Lorino, she didn't feel too bad about adding the errant clue. He enjoyed his work, and not too many people would hire him, as he wasn't actually licensed. Maybe they would have to find a new place to stay; somewhere that didn't have such a bureaucratic system of rules. Maybe somewhere with less technology; she would have to look into it.
Lorino had stopped pacing to look at the young dragon.
"What's so funny?" he asked, a slightly annoyed look on his furry face.
"Nothing," Lomah replied innocently. "I was just thinking of a joke I heard the other day. It wasn't really funny, but some of the people who heard only part of it had some very funny expressions when they hurried out of the room." She smiled, then tapped the couch. "Come sit with me and tell me about this case. What happened?"
Appeased, the serval anthro joined her on the couch and began to tell her what had been going on.
