Well, are you going to eat it? I thought you looked hungry, and very upset when you missed it. Was I wrong? Wait, would you like it cooked? I know many creatures, like you, prefer meat to be cooked.
While the dragon was talking to him, the lyynx had picked up the fryvan and pulled off most of its feathers. He pulled the bits of wood he had collected earlier into a pile and the dragon lit it, then continued talking.
I am Qursaanth. Who are you? And what are you looking for, if you don't mind me asking?
"My name is Qurzav. I was looking for the dragon who lives on this island. I need to ask a favor. Are you this dragon?" Qurzav looked hopefully at the patterned green hide of his current companion, as he took a mouthful of mostly cooked meat.
No, I am new to this place. But I can take you to him; he's not far away. I had heard you in the forest, and told him. He asked me to come see if you needed any help. Apparently, you did. Would you like to go see him?
The lyynx chewed another mouthful thoughtfully, then nodded. "Yes, I do need to see him. How long will it take to get there?"
Not long at all, Qursaanth replied. Just climb on, we'll be there before you know it.
"Fly!?! Really? Before I left home, I had never dreamed I would get to fly with a dragon. But I guess that's what my mother had in mind, when she sent me to get help from a dragon." He got to his feet and climbed the dragon's offered leg. The lyynx settled in and the dragon leapt into the air, and flew straight west for a few minutes. He landed in front of a rocky cave, where a blue dragon was waiting.
He slid from Qursaanth's back, and walked to stand in front of the blue. "Are you Storm? My village sent me to ask your help. I need a ride to the queen's city. My village has been ravaged by a deadly disease, and I need to ask the queen for her help. Would you be able to help me? Everyone who survived is mostly recovered, but we need supplies and maybe a few people to help us out the fields."
"I would be honored to help you. However, you don't seem to be in any condition to travel all the way to the city. Besides, the queen is very busy, she is not seeing many people these days. You stay here and rest. Qursaanth will keep you company; if you want to go back and check on your village. Or you could go somewhere else. You seem to get along well with dragons; would you maybe want to bond one? If so, once you have regained your strength, he could take you to a place where you could stand for a clutch. I'll let him explain what that all means. I'd best be off."
The blue jumped into the air, flew west, and soon flew out of sight. Qursaanth looked at the lyynx.Would you like me to catch you something larger? That way, if you're interested in bonding a dragon, I can leave you here for a few days and find a place for you to stand.
Qurzav nodded and the green took off, returning a few moments later with a small deerlike animal in his claws. The lyynx skinned and dressed the meat, while the royal emerald (that was what the green called his color) explained what bonding was all about.
Many dragons need to bond with another creature when they are born. The dragon's type, or where it is from decides what type of bond it needs. Some dragons can only bond to a human or humanoid, usually of the same gender, but not always, and it has to be at hatching. If one of these does not find an acceptable bond at hatching, it will die. Some dragons can bond humanoids or other dragons. These usually don't die if they don't find a bond at hatching; they just go out on their own to find one later, or occasionally decide to go without one. This type seems less picky about gender in their humans, and the ones that choose another dragon often choose one of the opposite gender, and will sometimes stay as mates when they are mature. Then there are the dragons who don't need to bond at all. Some of them choose to, and there a few that I've heard about who can't naturally bond, but they use magic to bond themselves to their chosen. These usually wait until they have met and talked with several potential bonds and have chosen the one they think would be the best match for their personality. So have I confused you? Are you interested in bonding? Or do you have any questions?
"I do have one question. Which group do you fit into? Obviously, not the first group, as I haven't seen any other humanoids around here." Qurzav looked at the dragon, curious.
Oh, me? I am from the second group, I just haven't found my bond yet. I will probably try standing for a clutch somewhere, though, I haven't decided where yet. So what will it be, do want me to go find a clutch for you to stand for?
"Sure, I would love to, if you think I might be suitable. I've never seen dragons before I met you two. Do you think that will make a difference?"
It shouldn't. I'll leave you to your meat and see if I can find you a place to stand. I've heard there a quite a few clutches looking for candidates right now. I'll be back soon.
Qurzav sat down and began to cut up the meat and hang it over the fire to cook. He looked at the sky, wondering how long it would take Storm to get to the queen's city, and either bring or send aid to his village. He hoped it wouldn't be too long. Maybe when Qursaanth returned they could make a quick trip to his village to check on everyone before he went to wherever dragons were hatched.
He spent the next few days resting and repairing his clothes, which had gotten quite shabby from lack of tending over the weeks he had been sick, and then travelling to this place. He explored the area and decided that if he had to be stuck somewhere, at least this was a pleasant place. When Qursaanth returned, he told the lyynx he could take him to a place called Ryslen or to a frenzy clutch that he found, the Geperna clutch. They were a rare dragon, a breed that was trying to make a comeback. There were a few other frenzy clutches if he were interested, but these two seemed the most interesting.
Qurzav thought about it and decided that he would try for Ryslen. They had large dragons, similar in size to Qursaanth, but they also had lians, a type of 'mini' dragon. The lyynx climbed onto the royal emerald's back and away they went. They made a brief stop in his village to tell them that help was on the way. On their way to Ryslen, he decided that he would try for one of the lians. He had never seen a mini dragon before, and they sounded very interesting.
When Qursaanth left him at Ryslen, he told him he would come back periodically to see if he needed a ride, or for any updates to give his village. The dragon said he would go back and give the village whatever help a dragon could, and Qurzav thanked him profusely.
"I'm sure that you will be a big help. And, thank you for all your help. I'll be glad to see you when you come back, even if it's just to visit. You have been a good friend, especially since you've only known me a few days."
Qursaanth left, and the lyynx went to sign up for the lian clutch.
