It Begins

Yawning, Sylvan shook kinks out of her double pair of shoulder wings. Lately it seemed she was sleeping more and more, and accomplishing far less than she liked. She hadn't added any new pieces to her collection in weeks, and after her last pet had died, she hadn't felt up to finding yet another short-lived companion.
Thinking for a few moments, she decided to head out to Star City. They had a wonderful shopping center/bazarre, and she was always able to find a new sparkly when she went there. Maybe that would cheer her up. Ooo, and that ship with all the hatchings could be there. Maybe she'd try to find a less dependent companion.

To her disappointment, the Destiny was not currently docked at Star City when she arrived, but she didn't let it phase her too much. After all, that was only the secondary reason she had come. She headed to the market. Browsing through several shops, she saw several items that she really admired, but only one really demanded to be bought. A lovely sapphire pendant, set in platinum, with a chain just long enough to drape comfortably around her neck.
As she was paying for the pendant, she heard someone mention a clutch of dragon kits. That were being "shown off" in one of the hatching bays. Their parents had elected for a public "bonding", though these particular kits wouldn't bond. They still needed sponsors, so were accepting applicants as usual.
Curiosity piqued, Sylvan headed down to the bays. It was easy enough to find the right one; it was the only one with the sounds of playful dragon kits coming through the bay door. She stepped into the bay and for a moment, there was silence. At least, compared to the noise from before. A large number of kits stopped what they were doing to stare at the lavender dragoness.
Once she was fully in the bay, several came over to her. One, with light blue wings, looked at her, eyes wide. "You have a lot of wings! Do any of them get in the way when you fly?"
Another, this one with brighter blue wings spoke up. "Llihandi! That wasn't very nice; you're supposed to introduce yourself before making random statements like that." He looked up at Sylvan. "I'm Lysasho. Do they get in the way?" Several other kits giggled, then a third piped in.
"I'm Niwanti, and since these two obviously forgot all our lessons on manners, could we get your name? It's nice to have something to call someone when talking to them." The other two looked sheepish for a moment, but as soon as Sylvan replied, "My name is Sylvan", they all, including Niwanti were asking everything they could think of, and some things she couldn't answer. It was wonderful!
A little while later, she headed out; the kits were getting tired and their parents were telling them they needed to get some sleep. She smiled at the kits one last time, and left the bay. Before she went looking for a place to stay the night, she added her name to the growing list of hopeful sponsors.
